Vishki. Rezekne. 5 Septembre 2009

The synagogue of Rezekne

19 heures.
Vishki c'est fini. Demain je pars en Russie.
It is my last day in Vishki. To morrow I leave to Russia.

Rain since this morning. I took some pics of Vishki , that can ve seen here.

Ancienne maison Usdin

I drove to Aglona to have lunch in that little cafe, that I like so much and to Rezekne.
I found the cemetery easily to the right when arriving from Daugavpils to Rezekne, at about 0,50 miles close to a muddy road.
It rained a lot. Impossible to take photos as I was afraid for the camera.I took some and left to find the synagogue.

Jolie synagogue en bois construite en 1845.
Beautiful wooden synagogue, built in 1845.

And the rain stopped and I drove to the cemetery again (when I have something in the brain....)

This cemetery is a pity to see as the old tomstones are in the woods and brambles.Only the newer part is maintained because there are still Jews in Rezekne and even a community.

I thought it was not normal that the descendants of Jews of Rezekne are not involved in restoring this beautiful cemetery. If a subscription was launched and everyone gave for instance 50€ it could be restored.

This tombstone is alone down a hill (???)

All the photos of Rezekne(the green synagogue, old Jewish houses and the Jewish cemetery) here

Going back to Vishki, I was very sad. If the cemetery had been "mine" I would have been busy with him for a londg time already.

I had diner at Nina and Dima, said good bye and return where I am now.
So I leave to morrow to Russia, to St Petersburg first. About two hours drive to reach the Russian border.

I think, that I shall sleep in Pskov as I have to register within three days and it's easier in a small town.

Environ 700 kms d'ici a Saint Petersbourg.
About 430 miles from here to St Petersburg.
And since departure I drove 2000 miles
